A/C filters are generally located near attics, large basements, or garages. In order to replace the filter turn the power off at the unit itself, and also at the circuit breaker, for the safety of oneself and others. Next, remove the old filter by simply sliding it out of the slot that holds it in place. Finally, check the condition of the filter, if the filter looks dull dispose of it in a safe and correct manner and insert your new filter. - Before you remove and replace your filters you should use personal protective equipment. For example, a face mask and a pair of Nitrile gloves. One should do this in order to avoid any debris from coming in contact with you.
- To dispose of your old A/C filters correctly, put the filter in a plastic bag with out shaking the filter, tie a knot to the bag and dispose of it in an outside trash can. Be sure never to leave your HVAC system without a filter.
